Computer Component Upgrade Parts Of A Computer Essay

Digital Technology Internal BMC 11INTE_02 3 March 2016 Computer Component Upgrade Parts of a Computer Processor A Processor is the ‘workhorse’ of the computer doing all of the calculations and processes that are required to power the computer programs that the user are is running. A processor would find it hard to keep up with all of the most current programs that needed to be run if it only had one section that could operate. So over time, CPU’s have been engineered to have more than one processor, known a core, so that it can do more things at once, or spread out the workload. If a processor has 2 cores, it means there are 2 independent cores that can read and execute commands. It is like two CPU’s in one. This means that the processor can achieve much better performance than if it only had one core. Processing takes power in the form of electricity, and it gets that from the power from the mains that are in your house or building. This power is then split up by the power supply, which is plugged into the wall. The power is transferred to the motherboard using a cable running from the PSU, it is plugged in to the motherboard using a 4 pin, 8 pin, or 4+4 pin connector where the power is transferred through some of the pins where the CPU connects to the motherboard. The CPU connects into the motherboard by a series of pins or exposed metal. There are 6 typical ways that the CPU can connect into the motherboard, these are called called PGA’s, or Pin GridShow MoreRelatedEssay about Chapter 1 Lab848 Words   |  4 PagesChapter 1 First Look at Computer Parts and Tools Lab 1.1 Record Your Work and Make Deliverables Review Questions 1. American Exceptionalism Free Essays

The term American Exceptionalism has many definitions to many different people. In general it refers to the idea that the United States of America holds the special title of worldwide peace keeper and bringer of justice and democracy as they are the land of the free. American Conservatives; such as the Tea Party, also pair the phrase up with the idea of superiority; whereas liberals would much more prefer Americans to see their country as ‘ordinary’ and so dislike the term. We will write a custom essay sample on American Exceptionalism or any similar topic only for you Order Now To them ordinary means things like American does not always assume its place as the world’s super power but simple acts as an international negotiator in times of need. The terminology was coined in 1831 by Alexis de Tocqueville as to explain a positive outward effect of America’s democracy. In 1929 the phrase was used adversely by the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin, when opposing the idea of the growth of capitalism in the states. In theory, American Exceptionalism works because of four key principles: divine right, resources, just beliefs and diversity. Many believe that the United States was chosen by God to lead the world and so they have the divine power to act in such a way over other countries. Although, others feel that the sheer wealth and resources the country has- such as the most powerful armed forces in the world gives them this power. Some consider the strong ideas and principles that the country was founded on as to the reason they have a greater say; whereas others argue that it is the mix of heritage and cultures, which makes America a kind of highbred of the best of the world, allowing for it to have this exceptional place in the world today. An odd and contradicting feature of the concept is that as an America knows best; they may over power their own legal system, other countries and conduct various types of secret activities if to protect the democratic system and state interests. America knows best: we must invade Iraq to free the people there from the dictatorship they live in, and then as a secondary thought because, they may have weapons of mass destruction (and oil that could be a lot of use to us). The idea that hacking people’s internet history and phone calls is just and fine, because the government can act beyond its means, as in the end they are protecting people from themselves- since they know best! The idea of Exceptionalism has allowed America to involve itself in many conflicts since the Mexican- American War of1846; where the Americans refused to accept that Mexico did not want to be a part of the United States and felt it was their mission to spread ‘freedom’ to the people of Mexico, right through to the Iraq war. During the Cold War the power of American Exceptionalism was used to display the American way of life as the right way and to try and crush the rising power of Communism. Ronald Reagan famously said that America had a duty to be â€Å"shining city on the hill† that the rest of the world would look up to. There are many positives and yet, many negatives of American Exceptionalism, and it is the principles of the term itself have brought about its demise. The waters have been muddied and so there are now many variations of the meaning of the words, which depend on the people using them. There is a spectrum of opinion: to some America is the almighty bringer of justice, and may do this by any means as long as they reach their end target of a freer and fair world. By contrast, others feel that Exceptionalism is simply used as a cover for the falling giant to do whatever it wants; from the invasions of lesser off countries, to spying on the day to day lives of millions of Americans. The use of Exceptionalism in foreign policy is often questioned; is it just a front the country can hide behind when actually working for personal gains rather than the good of the people? The expression is often used today in questioning America’s place as a super power. At a press conference in 2009 Obama was asked about his belief in American Exceptionalism he said: â€Å"I believe in American Exceptionalism, just as I suspect the Brits believe in British Exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek Exceptionalism†. In 2013 Mitt Romney used this comment to attack Obama, stating that he did not believe in the power of the United States as a power, yet them comment had little power as the term has been lost somewhat. The majority of the countries have democracy, or have made a greater step towards it over the last century, leaving America with a much lesser role as the bringer of social equality. American Exceptionalism has shaped the world we live today, without it both America and Britain would not be looked to as a role model of strong democratic systems and equality. The idea has brought the same concepts to many other countries and helped to advance areas such as industry and the role of women. However, in recent years the power of American Exceptionalism has faded and the flaws have become more visible. The positive effects of American Exceptionalism are now much gentler, and the goal is more to help countries create justice, rather than impose America’s view. How to cite American Exceptionalism, Papers American Exceptionalism Free Essays Throughout the history of America, many historians have referred to America’s role in the world as being exceptional. American Exceptionalism is a belief that the United States is significantly different from other countries in the world. Many view America as being exceptional due to the unique way the United States was founded and American’s view on liberty. We will write a custom essay sample on American Exceptionalism or any similar topic only for you Order Now The founding fathers of America strived to make freedom the backbone of the country. Many of those who immigrated to the states did so due to persecution from their native countries. America was different from any other country because its sole purpose was to be a safe haven for its citizens where one could have freedom. According to Matthew Spalding, â€Å"The American Revolution drew on old ideas. The United States is the product of Western civilization, shaped by Judeo-Christian culture and the political liberties inherited from Great Britain† (p. 1). America’s founding principles make it exceptional because it placed authority in the hands of the citizens where as most other countries have resorted to governing monarchies, dictators, and even tyrannies. America’s view on providing liberties such as religious freedom, freedom of speech, and the right to live ones own life make it an exception from the rest of the world. Because of this, many believe that America’s Exceptionalism makes it superior. â€Å"World History In Brief† states, â€Å"The nation’s federal system led to a fairly weak central government, and many major developments were the result of state action or business initiatives† (p. 419). The lack of regulation in industries allows more businesses to flourish and try new ventures. The financial opportunities America provides for families and individuals is quite high compared to other nations. According to Forbes, â€Å"The typical person in the bottom 5 percent of the American income distribution is still richer than 68 percent of the world’s inhabitants† (p. 2). The financial success in America definitely contributes to America’s Exceptionalism. One must question whether or not American Exceptionalism really makes it  superior than other countries. While the founding principles and way of life might be significantly diverse, historical events in America show that there are flaws in the system. The United States has a history of slavery, racial discrimination, and limits on who can vote. While present day America allows for both men and women to vote and has made slavery illegal, the blunders of the past are reminiscent of suppression and limited rights for women and minorities in other countries. America was founded on principles of freedom unlike any other country. It’s differences make it unique throughout the world and a view of American Exceptionalism has been created. While this theory is looked at in a positive light, it’s important to also take into account the negative historical events in America. Currently, the United States is still one of the most powerful nations and provides hope to not only it’s citizens but also people around the world. How to cite American Exceptionalism, Papers

Strategic Global Business and Competitive Coca Cola

Question: Discuss about the Strategic Global Business and Competitive Coca Cola. Answer: Introduction: Coca cola is leading among the soft drink companies in the world, selling sparkly and still drinks. The company makes around 60% of its income and around 80% of its operational revenues from its divisions outside the United States having the most solid brand known all over the world. Liquid refreshment business brands market space is composed of the fruit beverages, energy drinks, sports beverages, bottled water and ready to drink tea and coffee(Feloni, 2015). On a scale basis, coca cola controls the largest market space. The products outstanding performance cannot be over highlighted.it stands out amidst all states and channels. Coca cola is not only the leading liquid refreshment beverage in the United States but also tops the global rankings in soft drinks, this is based on the product value. The brand also has the second highest number of fans on its Facebook page.(Bhasin, 2016) The most important factor for global companies is that they are able to find the correct combination of local and universal in their processes. The coca cola company is universal, yet the company is still locally relevant. The company may be giving their customers the same happy messages, the same product may be communicated to the clients but it is still done in a different manner in different countries(David Butler, 2015). Coca cola boasts of being a franchise structure. The bottles are sourced locally. For instance in Turkey, there are Turkish bottlers, in Kenya, coca cola bottlers and much more. This means that the success of the business depends on the value of the relationship the company has with the bottlers and the companys brand. To manage franchise relations, as a company, you have to have a geographical positioning. Worldwide, Coca-Cola Company has five functioning groups, Latin America, North America, Europe, Pacific and Eurasia combined with Africa(Vrontis, 2003). The juice franchise at the same time has necessitated a change in managerial structure, as compared to the sparkling drinks business. Raw materials are expensive with prices not being constant and there is an opportunity for the business to innovate faster. For instance, the company is capable of introducing four to five variances of their juice in a particular year. Thus, a matrix exists. In Atlanta, the company has a functional group which is responsible for juices globally, but still work through the topographical organizations(Vaid, 2015). The company has come out to state categorically that the franchise is still developing in a bid to finding the best indigenous and worldwide combination that will work for them. The companys relationship with the bottlers is local, decisions are made within the local context, quality standards are local (adhering to government standards). The company however has its own international, severe quality control criterions(Bhasin, 2016). The company stresses a collaborative process in its way of doing business to minimize conflicts and make decision making easy. There is a strong thread of uniformity among all the areas and all these regions remain linked to the head team in Atlanta through the investment and marketing societies. The company projects using todays demographics that in the year 2020, half of the changes will be in Eurasia and Africa, teenagers numbers will grow, urbanization and new players in the middle class. The consumptions of beverages are very low in these nations with South Africa recording about 250 drinks in a year for a person. This is above the international average. For Turkey, it is slightly higher than 150. The company strategy is to grow its Coke brand with its consumers locally(Vrontis, 2003). This the company achieves through the correct pricing, packaging, with smaller and larger packs, or take away packs. The company also places new coolers in the marketplace, then invest in people who activate the channels one by one. This is successful because in some of the markets coca cola has gone into, water and juice businesses flourish but tea and energy drink market is still emerging(Khanna, Palepu, Bullock, 2010). SWOT analysis Strengths Brand consciousness: The Company has marketed itself well and is one of the brands known globally. This is due to its signature logo. The company also has a large number of factions who incline not to move to other brands(Khanna, Palepu, Bullock, 2010). Delivery network: Its supply network also makes its products accessible to customers in more than 200 nations. Weaknesses Water managing: water is still a limited resource in some countries, yet still the major ingredient for Coca Cola Company. Many factories use water to make their products. This resource is also useful to the communities. These actions escalate the danger of pollution and poor managing. Variation in foreign exchange: the company gets revenue, pays expenditures and suffers liabilities in countries that do not use the US dollar(Vaid, 2015)r. Opportunities Diversification: the company has been working hard to figure an existence in the quickly developing beverage classes. It owns 16% of Keurig Green Mountain currently and still developing a fresh Keurig Kold device set to debut later on. Coca Cola also procured 17% stake in Monster drink. Threats Healthy choices: a cultural change towards natural and organic foods has steered many to go for dietary waters and other healthy beverage selections. This means that coca cola products with high quantities of sugar and sweeteners have fallen out of approval with several people. This trend is not likely to end soon because consumers are becoming more conscious about dieting. Incidental rivalry: minor franchise and retail shops offer clients healthy substitutes for carbonated drinks hence placing a cavity in the companys marketplace. Industry statistics suggest that clients will continue to be dragged away from rudimentary beverage selections in favor of customizable selections with greater nutritional value(Magretta, 2012). Conclusion Even though the company faces many challenges, it still possesses a pronounced deal for the future. Its financial resources, size and influence have it well placed to take benefit of valuable acquisition goals. The establishments brand charm and cut like following to ensure that the company will remain a top tier liquid refreshment supplier in years to come. Its massive delivery system should facilitate better capacities in the future and accomplishment in in mushrooming markets. All said, investors who are conservative and want a consistent source of revenue and a bit of investment achievements acquaintance might want to give the coca cola company a glimpse(Vrontis, 2003). It is important for people goi... free essay sample

It is important for people going into any profession to develop a personal philosophy about their chosen career to help them develop ideas about what they find important about said career. Developing a personal philosophy can help guide a developing professional into the type of nurse they would like to become. For this assignment I was asked to discuss two concepts that I would include in my personal philosophy. For the purposes of this paper and developing a nursing philosophy, I decided that the two things I find most valuable and strive to achieve as a student nurse and later as a working nurse are compassion and being knowledgeable. CompassionTo be compassionate means to be kind, caring and willing to help other, especially those who are having a difficult time for any reason. Nurses see patients when they are at their worst or when they are weak and unsure of what will happen next. We will write a custom essay sample on It is important for people goi or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Some patients have a whole large family in the hospital or room with them while others have no one at all. Some patients may be dealing with the blow of receiving bad news or the stress of being the only income for a family. Nurses never know what they are walking into when they enter the hospital to go to work or even when they enter a room to take care of a patient. Empathy is part of compassion and nurses need to be able to empathize with patients and families. When a nurse is able to put themselves in the patients shoes they are more able to understand what the patient is feeling and can be more open to receiving input from the patient of family. Compassionate nurses take the time to listen to their patients, even when they are busy. A nurse who takes the time to talk with her patients is not only building trust but may also learn information he/she might not have received otherwise. In the hospital, patients and families may feel as though they dont have control over very much and this may be frustrating to some. Having a nurse who listens and does what he/she can to accommodate patient requests or even just answer questions that patients or care givers may have helps to put the patient and their family at ease and build trust between the nurse and the patient. Another part of compassion is checking on the patients to see if they need anything. If patients feel the nurse truly cares about their well-being and recovery then they are more likely to tell the nurse about any new symptoms or call the nurse for help if it is needed. Nurses should be the embodiment of compassion for all of the many patients they will see ev ery day. A nurse who has compassion for her patients makes this usually difficult time at least a little better for everyone involved. Knowledge To have useful knowledge of something is to have learned information and to be able to apply the information to a situation in which it would be useful. One would hope that most people would have a basic knowledge for how to take care of themselves but that basic knowledge only goes so far. Nurses must have a more in-depth, intimate knowledge of the body, how it works and interventions that need to take place in order to help patients regain or optimize their health. Nurses who do not have this knowledge potentially put people lives in danger just by showing up to work. Nurses on the people on the floors of hospitals 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and they are the ones performing most of the interventions. If a critical situation emerges nurses are usually the first ones in the room and must know how to respond when there is a person in the bed whose life depends upon his/her knowledge and skills. Nurses must be able to speak knowledgeably about procedures, diseases, medicines, risk factors and more to both the patients and their families. Being able to do this along with answering questions that they may have builds trust and confidence that they are getting the best care possible. When patients and families can relax knowing they are being taken care of they have more energy available to focus on healing. In conclusion, nurses have a difficult job that requires many different skills. In nursing, unlike many other careers, one must have the knowledge and skills but that alone is not enough, one must also be compassionate and able to build new relationships with people every day.

Interactions between Hinduism and Modernity

Interactions between Hinduism and Modernity The world is divided into various religions which play a very significant role in determining the culture of people. In addition, religion is also very crucial in the politics of every country. At least every person in the world belongs to one type of religion or the other.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Interactions between Hinduism and Modernity specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More In this regard, the development of the world has been highly influenced by religions, which in some instances form the pillars of the government. It is important to note that the modern world and religions are highly integrated, to the extent that it is sometimes hard to separate the two. Hinduism which is one of the religions in the world has a lot of interactions with the modern world despite being an ancient religion. Hinduism as a type of religion was originally highly discriminatory and promoted the caste system, which stratified the s ociety according to wealth (Verma, 2009). However, Hinduism is not such an organized religion where people will need permission from authority to be part of it. On the contrary, it is rather a belief that is free for all and is not regulated as much. As a result, Hinduism is not so much into government issues as are other religions. Mahatma Gandhi and other modern leaders of Hinduism were against the caste system, which was seen as timid and backward culture. It is because of this stand that Gandhi was assassinated. It should however be noted that the caste system still persists in India, despite the modern civic education that people have received. Modernity and Hinduism contradict in the allocation of roles where in Hinduism; roles are assigned in relation to gender while following traditional theories (Verma, 2009). On the other hand, modern society requires roles to be allocated equally without stereotyping. The modern society is so material that many people are nowadays too bus y at improving their living standards, than they are about advancing their spiritual life. On the other hand, Hinduism advocates for noble pursuits where self advancement is included. Therefore, Hindus are allowed by their religion to seek self as well as family advancement. On the same note, the modern world advocates for non-violent actions incase people are not satisfied about anything. Hinduism also propagates non-violent behavior among its followers (Verma, 2009). These are the teachings that Martin Luther king Jr. used in his fight against segregation in the United States of America.Advertising Looking for essay on religion theology? While traditional Hinduism theories are vital in constructing modern social reforms, only the spiritual par t has been incorporated. On the same note, the Hindu society differs with the modern secular world in a number of ways, especially in technologically (Verma, 2009). The modern technology requires autonomy of society while it refutes the doctrine of Karma. On the contrary, Hinduism is seen by some people as being a hindrance to modernity, due to its principles of Karma and lack of societal independence. Due to the fact that Hinduism is not that structured, its role in modern day politics is highly minimal. Nevertheless, the issues raised by the Hindu society are significant in the structuring of Indian politics. However, India has remained majorly a secular government in which religion plays a relatively insignificant role. It should however be noted that there is no religion that can be said to be more influential than the other in the modern society, since everyone has their own interpretation. References Verma, R. Citizens United - A Primer on the Court Case

Citizens United - A Primer on the Court Case Citizens United is a nonprofit corporation and conservative advocacy group that successfully sued the Federal Election Commission in 2008 claiming its campaign finance rules represented unconstitutional restrictions on the First Amendment guarantee of freedom of speech. The U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark decision ruled that the federal government cannot limit corporations - or, for that matter, unions, associations or individuals - from spending money to influence the outcome of elections. The ruling led to the creation of super PACs. â€Å"If the First Amendment has any force it prohibits Congress from fining or jailing citizens, or associations of citizens, for simply engaging in political speech,† Justice Anthony M. Kennedy wrote for the majority. About Citizens United Citizens United describes itself as a being dedicated to the goal of restoring government to U.S. citizens through education, advocacy, and grassroots organization. â€Å"Citizens United seeks to reassert the traditional American values of limited government, freedom of enterprise, strong families, and national sovereignty and security. Citizens Uniteds goal is to restore the founding fathers vision of a free nation, guided by the honesty, common sense, and good will of its citizens,† it states on its website. Origins of Citizens United Case The Citizens United legal case stems from the groups intention to broadcast â€Å"Hillary: The Movie,† a documentary it produced that was critical of then-U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton, who at the time was seeking the Democratic presidential nomination. The film examined Clintons record in the Senate and as the first lady to President Bill Clinton. The FEC claimed the documentary represented electioneering communications as defined by the McCain-Feingold law, known as the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002. McCain-Feingold prohibited such communications by broadcast, cable, or satellite within 30 days of a primary or 60 days of a general election. Citizens United challenged the decision but was turned away by the District Court for the District of Columbia. The group appealed the case to the Supreme Court. Citizens United Decision The Supreme Court’s 5-4 decision in favor of Citizens United overruled two lower-court rulings. The first was Austin v. Michigan Chamber of Commerce, a 1990 decision that upheld restrictions on corporate political spending. The second was McConnell v. Federal Election Commission, a 2003 decision that upheld the 2002 McCain-Feingold law banning â€Å"electioneering communications† paid for by corporations. Voting with the Kennedy in the majority were Chief Justice John G. Roberts and associate justices Samuel Alito, Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas. Dissenting were justices John P. Stevens, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer and Sonia Sotomayor. Kennedy, writing for the majority, opined: Governments are often hostile to speech, but under our law and our tradition it seems stranger than fiction for our Government to make this political speech a crime. The four dissenting justices described the majority opinion as a rejection of the common sense of the American people, who have recognized a need to prevent corporations from undermining self-government since the founding, and who have fought against the distinctive corrupting potential of corporate electioneering since the days of Theodore Roosevelt. Opposition to Citizens United Ruling President Barack Obama leveled perhaps the most vocal criticism of the Citizens United decision by directly taking on the Supreme Court, saying the five majority justices â€Å"handed a huge victory to the special interests and their lobbyists.† Obama lashed out at the ruling in his 2010 State of the Union address. With all due deference to separation of powers, last week the Supreme Court reversed a century of law that I believe will open the floodgates for special interests - including foreign corporations - to spend without limit in our elections, Obama said during his address to a joint session of Congress. I dont think American elections should be bankrolled by Americas most powerful interests, or worse, by foreign entities. They should be decided by the American people, the president said. And Id urge Democrats and Republicans to pass a bill that helps to correct some of these problems. In the 2012 presidential contest, though, Obama softened his stance on super PACs and encouraged his fundraisers to bring in contributions to a super PAC that was supporting his candidacy. Support for Citizens United Ruling David N. Bossie, the president of Citizens United, and Theodore B. Olson, who served as the group’s lead counsel against the FEC, described the ruling as striking a blow for freedom of political speech. â€Å"In Citizens United, the court reminded us that when our government seeks ‘to command where a person may get his or her information or what distrusted source he or she may not hear, it uses censorship to control thought,’† Bossie and Olson wrote in The Washington Post in January 2011. â€Å"The government argued in Citizens United that it could ban books advocating the election of a candidate if they were published by a corporation or labor union. Today, thanks to Citizens United, we may celebrate that the First Amendment confirms what our forefathers fought for: ‘the freedom to think for ourselves.’†

Importance of psychology in nursing and how gender plays a role Dissertation

Importance of psychology in nursing and how gender plays a role - Dissertation Example With its over-arching knowledge and general applicability to various discourses, psychology has been successful in having an impact on the profession of nursing as well. The profession of nursing entails, â€Å"the use of clinical judgment in the provision of care to enable people to improve, maintain, or recover health, to cope with health problems and to achieve the best possible quality of life whatever their disease or disability until death† (Glasper & Richardson, pp. 95, 2006). As obvious from this definition, nursing is inevitably related to psychology and its inferences since it does not only deal with humans (patients) but also has a critical impact on how nurses deal with different patients, as well as on the element of care and strategies that focus on the stimulation of quicker recovery. Thus, in all aspects, psychology and nursing are highly interrelated with one affecting the performance of the other. However, there is more to it than just the element of care and its psychological underlying themes. What is particularly interesting, especially in the light of modern advancements in career planning and professional motivations is the issue of gender in nursing. Recently, what was considered to be only women’s profession, first of prostitutes and nuns and later on, by the virtue of Florence Nightingale, of decent educated and cultures young women, is now profession of young men. In specific, there has been a significant rise in number of male nurses in the past decade globally. Interesting to note; however, are the differences and similarities between these trends and behaviors of caring and treating the patients by male and female nurses individually (Miers, 2000). In this regard, this paper will attempt to discover these differences and trends and identify response patterns particular to each of them. Brief analysis of the literature indicated research of Kalisch & Kalisch (1987) who put efforts to explore change in the image of nurs ing profession all along the passage of time. In specific, concise description of their hypothesis is that perception of the female nurse as Angel of Mary in late 19th century evolved into that of Girl Friday prevalent in 1920’s. Subsequently, during World War II, the nurses played the role of Heroines followed by their image as Wives and Mothers in 1950’s and from mid 1960’s until 1980’s, they confronted their perception as sex objects (Kalisch & Kalisch, 1987). However, since after 1980s, the image of female nurses has changed radically. Nowadays, society look at the nurses as middle-aged, Caucasian, overworked and female representatives of the society. In addition, one can come across many reasons to evaluate how the femininity in the perception of nursing has accentuated. Specifically, nursing came about as a popular profession for women who wanted to step outside their homes and work. Therefore, since the very beginning, society perceived it as a fem inine profession. Several other researchers (Miers, 2000) noted that during the World Wars, this gender divide became all the more visible as the women took up the care-giving role and supported their male counterparts who went and fought in the battle. On the other hand, men were also discouraged as they confront rejection while acquiring admission in nursing schools.
